School

I have studied guitarbuildning at Musikk Instrument Akademiet (MIA), Norway for 4 years. The study consists of a practical part which includes:

building, repairing and restoring all kinds of plucked stringinstruments (both historical and modern), making, maintaining and using tools, machines, jigs and fixtures

and a theoretical part which deals with all subjects necessary for the instrumentmaker such as:

acoustics, mathematics, physics, wood and metal material theory, guitar related theory, technical drawing, general instrument theory, music theory, music listening, music history and the german language since most of the teachers have been german. A thorough course in guitarelectronics was part of both practical and theory. We have also studied various branches of the trade such as CNC machines, economics and socialknowledge.

Here´s a list of the guitarbuilding teachers I have had during the practical part:

We had each teacher for a period of about six weeks. Some of them have done two or three periods.
